Midnight’s Dance offers sanctuary and hospice care to homeless and shelter animals that face euthanasia due to terminal illness and other special needs. Each animal will enjoy the highest possible quality of life and end their lives in a home environment, with loving caregivers, dignity, and respect.
Midnight's Dance grew from lessons learned while caring for our first hospice cat. Midnight came to us in September of 2005. At the time she arrived at our home, Midnight had a hairless ring around her neck from an old embedded collar, she was emaciated at less than 3 pounds, had a serious upper respiratory infection, was missing many of her teeth, had cataracts in both eyes, a heart condition, and within a few weeks of her arrival, she was diagnosed with the cancer that ended her life.
The extreme numbers of homeless animals produced by our society and the lack of resources to provide for those animals force traditional rescue organizations to make the agonizing choice between the "adoptable" and the "unadoptable." The logical choice for these organizations is to allocate their resources toward the animals that can receive the greatest impact from their services. Sadly, animals like Midnight face euthanasia because their needs are so great and their adoption potential is poor.
Midnight’s Dance offers an alternative - palliative and hospice care in a loving home until the animal experiences a natural death. We accept referrals from rescue organizations, city/county animal shelters, and local veterinarians. We have the ability to provide care for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and hamsters. We are not able to accept animals with transmittable diseases, in order to preserve the health of our current residents.
We accet animals on a case-by-case basis, dependening on the care needs of the animal in conjunction with the type and number of animals we currently have in residence. We offer palliative care to terminally ill animals, only subjecting them to procedures that will alleviate pain, while promoting comfort and quality life. We do not routinely end the lives of our animals through euthanasia; instead, we allow the animal to end it's life naturally, in a way consistent with our personal and spiritual beliefs.
On occasion, temporary residents join our sanctuary for a variety of reasons. Most often, feral kittens join us for socialization and to learn the skills that will help them become excellent pets. When the time comes for temporary residents to move on to homes and live out their lives with loving families, we make them available for adoption. An application and contract are required to adopt from Midnight's Dance. If you're interested in a particular pet, please email adoptions@midnightsdance.org and we will forward an adoption application to you.
